Salt for hide treatment: choose impeccable quality
Before animal hides can be transformed into premium leather products, they must first be treated with salt. Sprinkling a generous amount of high-quality salt onto pre-cleaned hides removes moisture, inhibits bacterial growth, and prevents deterioration. For example, cattle hides typically require 10–12 kg of salt per hide, and the process may be repeated to ensure optimal preservation.
Why Choose MOSES® Salt for Hide Treatment?
MOSES® offers salt specifically designed for hide preservation, delivering:
- Perfectly aligned grains for consistent coverage
- Stable moisture content to maintain effectiveness
- Minimal impurities (stones, shells, etc.)
For delicate hides such as sheepskins, lambskins, and calfskins, finer grain SALCO 0-1 or SALCO 1-3 is ideal. Coarser grains work exceptionally well for cattle hides.
Enhanced Protection with Borax
For very sensitive hides, MOSES® also offers fine salt with 2–3% sodium borate. Borax adds an extra layer of protection, particularly during warmer periods, reducing spoilage and ensuring hides remain in excellent condition.
